Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. And truth be told if you haven’t started the morning on a good note with some good coffee and a happy belly, well your day might not be a great one.
Sydney’s Inner West has so much to offer – especially when it comes to food. We’re spoilt for choice! Focusing on Marrickville and its immediate surrounds here are my top four places to grab a great breakfast or brunch.
The Stable – Dulwich Hill
The Stable in Dulwich Hill has only been open for a few years, but has become one of the frequented cafés in the area. There’s plenty to choose from on the menu however my go to is their Acai bowl and Vietnamese Iced Coffee. Seriously good! The staff is friendly and the service is great. The Vietnamese Ices coffee is sweet, so if you’re a sweet tooth this one’s definitely for you. Their Acai bowl packs a punch. Full of fruit and a pretty decent serving size it’s hard to pass up. Especially now since summer is well on its way.
West Juliett – Marrickville
West Juliett is one of those places where you either get there early or wait a bit for a table. Why? Well, the food is amazing! The Breakfast plate of leg ham, ricotta, avocado, poached egg, tomato and toast is my go to at this place. Really yummy and filling. If you’re not that hungry the poached eggs on toast with a side of bacon is also mouth watering. Fancy something a bit more fun for your morning feast? Then try their French toast, vanilla strawberries, ricotta and salted caramel.
Post Café – Marrickville
The Post Café Marrickville serves the biggest brekkie I’ve seen in a while and for the best price. We’re talking a huge piece of sourdough toasted, two eggs your way, hash brown, roasted cherry tomatoes, sautéed mushroom, two sausages, spinach, haloumi and tomato chutney on the side. Wash all that down with a Campos coffee and you’ll be satisfied until the late afternoon.
Envy Deli Café – Summer Hill
Envy Deli Café is one of my absolute faves. Not only for their food but for their amazing garden where you can sit amongst the trees and enjoy breakfast or lunch. It’s a really lovely space. They make a great rice porridge with almond milk, poached pear, cinnamon and brown sugar. However, the zucchini fritters are a must! They are so delicious that I could eat them all day long. The fritters come served with poached egg, rocket, hollandaise and a tomato relish. These guys really know what they’re doing when it comes to food. And if you can’t get to summer Hill that’s ok because they also have Sideways Deli Café in Dulwich Hill.
With so many options there’s more to come. If you’re craving for a good hearty breakfast or brunch then these four above will definitely get you your moneys worth. See their links for more on their menus and where you can find them.
Stay tuned more to come.
