Salt Vine is Sydney’s newest Lebanese Tapas bar located in Surry Hills. It’s a small establishment with only a 60 pax capacity, but packs a big punch with flavour. This is certainly good Lebanese food with a modern twist.
There are plenty of options on the menu and the plates are designed to share and are pretty generous portions.
The Beetroot Tahini dip is beautifully textured and flavoursome and is served with Lebanese bread. Also try their Avocado Zaatar and Labneh dip which is a different take on traditional labneh – seriously yummy!
Now, I really like falafels, and I have to say that these were really, really good. Some of the best I’ve tried of late. They were crunchy on the outside and soft inside and they burst with flavour when you bit into them. They come served with pickled beetroot and herbed tahini yogurt to dip into.
The Char grilled Lamb Shoulder was served on roast onion labneh and was divine, it was beautifully cooked and fell apart when you stuck your fork in it.
Everybody loves chicken and the Lebanese do it well. The Grilled Chicken comes in big pieces and is juicy and lovely. It comes with toum (garlic dip) and pickles; the flavours of the garlic and chicken balance each other perfectly.
The Charred Eggplant is also a must, it is a bit spicy and is dressed in roast peppers, pistachio, cumin and pickled cucumber.
Now every good meal needs a good salad. The Fattoush salad brings a perfect balance as an accompaniment to the dishes. However, it can be eaten on its own as it’s a big serve.
Salt Vine also have a drinks menu serving a range of wines and beers including ones from Lebanon. The only downside was that the wine we had selected that night wasn’t available and they only had one red available from their menu (which wasn’t all that bad in taste).
The price is really decent, so if you’re looking for a nice meal to share with friends (or have on your own because you’re not going to want to share) this is a great place. The food is fresh and tasty and there are a few vegetarian options on the menu.
After you’ve eaten your way through the menu, if you still have room there are desert options of Baklava Ice Cream and Summer Pudding to choose from.
